Two of the best teams in the nation, Bishop O’Dowd and Wheeler, met at the Spalding Hoophall Classic.  Wheeler went into the game ranked 2nd in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings and 1st in Georgia, but it was the country’s 11th ranked O’Dowd who walked away with the victory.

The Dragons, making the trip to Massachusetts all the way from California, managed to keep Wheeler’s high-powered offense in line all game.  O’Dowd took a 5-point lead in the first quarter, but the Wildcats worked their way back into the game, leading 38-37 by the half.

Then, Bishop O’Dowd took back the advantage in the third, this time holding on to it for the remainder of the game.  The Dragons wrapped up the game with a 79-70 win.

Ivan Rabb led O’Dowd at both ends of the court, scoring 24 points to accompany his 11 rebounds and five blocks.  Boise-state commit Paris Austin backed Rabb up with 18 points and 11 assists.

O’Dowd’s next match is on January 21 back in California against Piedmont.
